What it means

How the differences affect the job

Start with the file, the people receiving it, and what needs to happen after delivery.

01

This is delivery versus a working folder

TransferSize is designed for sending a finished file through a separate link. Google Drive is designed to store files and keep people working in the same place. The right choice depends on what should happen after the first download.

02

The 5 TB number needs context

Google Drive can store most file types up to 5 TB, but the account must have enough storage and other Google limits can still apply. TransferSize uses a smaller, clear per-file limit for a temporary transfer.

03

A public link and a private share are not the same

A Drive owner can allow anyone with the link, or restrict access to named people. Work and school settings may block outside sharing. TransferSize uses a download link with optional password, expiry, and download limits.

04

Drive is better while work is still changing

Use Drive when people need shared folders, comments, editing, search, and a file that stays current. Use a transfer when the file is final and the recipient mainly needs to download it.

Questions

Questions people ask

When should I send a transfer instead of a Drive link?

Use a transfer when the file is final and the other person mainly needs a copy. Use Drive when people need to edit, comment, organize, or return to the same file over time.

Does a person need a Google account to open a Drive file?

It depends on the owner's sharing settings and company rules. A public TransferSize link does not require the recipient to create an account.

Why can Drive list a larger file size?

Drive is a storage service, so its limit also depends on how much storage the account has. TransferSize uses a per-file transfer limit and can remove the public file when the link expires.

How we checked this comparison

TransferSize wrote this page, so it is not an independent review. We checked the competitor's own plan, product, and help pages on 2026-08-25.

  • We compare the jobs both services can reasonably handle, even when the products are not identical.
  • We say when the other service is the better fit.
  • We do not name a speed or quality winner without a repeatable test.

If a fact has changed, email support@transfersize.com with the page and an official source.
